Tom Goodman Best of Show Award:

  • Superior: Come fly with us: L.A. County's Annual Report

Posted by Tristan Friday, July 7, 2017 9:44:00 AM

Greetings NACIO Members,

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July holiday this week.  We have several updates to share since our last member e-mail.  Please take a moment to learn about all the NACIO activities including plans for the upcoming NACo Annual Conference in a few weeks.

NACIO Awards of Excellence Contest.  Thank you to all those that submitted entries for the 2017 contest.  All Superior, Excellence and Meritorious winners have been notified.  A list of winners is attached and will be added to the NACIO website.  Best of Class winners and the Best of Show (Tom Goodman Award) recipient will be announced at the Awards of Excellence Reception on Friday, July 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. (with remarks at 5 p.m.) in NACo President Bryan Desloge’s suite.  An invitation is attached – please feel free to forward information on to colleagues and elected officials within your organization that may wish to attend or accept awards should you not be attending the conference.  A special thank you to Cragin Mosteller with the Florida Association of Counties for chairing the 2017 contest. Plans for an awards webinar in August is in the works.

Conference Activities.  Please see the attached schedule of NACIO events taking place as part of the NACo Annual Conference July 20-24.  Please note that the NACIO Business Meeting will be held on Friday, July 21 at 9 a.m. followed by a networking lunch at 11 a.m. within the Hyatt Regency (convention center hotel) at the Market Stand Café on 2nd Floor.  Afternoon workshops from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. are open to all NACIO members (even if not registered for the NACo Conference) as well as the Awards Reception scheduled for that evening.

Presidential Election.   An electronic ballot will be sent out to members following this message regarding the election of the next NACIO 2nd Vice President.  We had one candidate Cragin Mosteller come forward during our call for candidates earlier this year.  Even though we do not have multiple candidates, we still must hold an election prior to our business meeting on July 21.

Webinars.  Regular monthly webinars will resume in August after NACo Conference Activities.   A special thank you goes out to Tristan Babin on the NACIO Board of Directors for hosting a very informative Crisis Communications webinar a few weeks ago.  Even if you missed the webinar, you can view the presentation here.

I’ll be sure to send some reminders out the week of the conference as well as the business meeting agenda.  It’s been an honor serving as your president and I look forward to staying engaged with NACIO in my new role as past President following the Board Meeting on July 21.   I will always be appreciative of all the opportunities and wonderful people I’ve had the chance to work with through NACIO.

Jessica Beyer

NACIO President
